Fracturing process in an anisotropic layered geomaterial: theoretical and computational predictions

چکیده

Abstract. The present work investigates the fracturing behavior of an anisotropic layered geomaterial, known as Opalinus Clay (OPA). formation this rock is mainly related to a sedimentation process, where bedding planes correspond isotropy. OPA here studied because its good properties, primarily, low permeability and high adsorption capability, which make it perfect candidate for storage radioactive waste. characterization takes place experimentally in Mont Terri Rock Laboratory, northern Switzerland, with increased attention theoretical computational predictions. In context, aims at simulating nonlinear crack by using eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM) damage mechanics. study applied on Semi-Circular specimen under Bending load (SCB), whose response investigated terms peak direction cracking propagation different notch dimensions geometries.

Theoretical uncertainties in sparticle mass predictions from computational tools

We estimate the current theoretical uncertainty in sparticle mass predictions by comparing several state-of-the-art computations within the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We find that the theoretical uncertainty is comparable to the expected statistical errors from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and significantly larger than those expected from a future e+e− Linear Collider (LC...

development and implementation of an optimized control strategy for induction machine in an electric vehicle

in the area of automotive engineering there is a tendency to more electrification of power train. in this work control of an induction machine for the application of electric vehicle is investigated. through the changing operating point of the machine, adapting the rotor magnetization current seems to be useful to increase the machines efficiency. in the literature there are many approaches wh...

An Experimental and Theoretical Analysis of Foam Formation in the Sour Gas Sweetening Process

Use of amine solutions for the removal of acid gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from natural gas is the most common method, and, in this process, operational problems because of foaming are reported. Foaming can lead to the entrainment of liquid into downstream process equipment and might result in a situation in which the process specification...

Theoretical Uncertainties in Inflationary Predictions

With present and future observations becoming of higher and higher quality, it is timely and necessary to investigate the most significant theoretical uncertainties in the predictions of inflation. We show that our ignorance of the entire history of the Universe, including the physics of reheating after inflation, translates to considerable errors in observationally relevant parameters. Using t...
